WESTERN SPRINGS, IL — In the last few days, Western Springs police handled cases involving a stolen wedding ring, a DUI crash, damage and theft of Christmas decorations, and porch piracy. Here's information from the latest Western Springs police reports: A wedding ring was stolen from a bedroom when a mattress was delivered by two people in the 5300 block of Grand Avenue. The ring was valued at $8,000. The theft was reported Christmas Eve.Johnnie B. Wells, 53, of Chicago, was arrested at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Ogden Avenue and Wolf Road on charges of DUI (drugs) and possession of a controlled substance. Wells turned himself in to the police based on an incident in September when he crashed his car into a semi-truck. He was charged at the time, but further charges were pending the results of lab tests that were positive for a controlled substance. Outdoor Christmas lights were cut overnight Dec. 20 in the 1100 block of Pin Oak Drive. Christmas lights from a tree in front of a house in the 4100 block of Franklin Avenue were reported stolen Wednesday.A man took an inflatable holiday decoration valued at $130 from a front yard in the 4100 block of Johnson Avenue. The incident, which was reported Wednesday, was captured on a security camera. Several packages were taken from outside a house between Dec. 7 and Dec. 16 in the 5300 block of Lawn Avenue. The items were valued between $1,800 and $2,000. Police report information is provided by local police departments. Charges are not evidence of guilt. They are a record of police actions on a given day, and persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
