Vocalist/lyricist looking for something new

Description

I have been in a very active band for most of the past decade. As that project may be winding to an end, I am interested in seeing what else may be out there in my area. I’m open to various situations, but practicing once a week and playing 1-2 a month is probably ideal. I’ve been in original bands and that is a great creative outlet for me, as long as I have the right writing partner(s). I am also very open to a cover band that can have lots of fun and make more scratch while doing it. I don’t really play anything, but I’ve written a couple songs on my mandolin that I like to muck with. I have a career, so not looking at this as a pipe dream. Once I am committed though, I take it seriously and want to be good, marketable and handle our business like pros. I’ve been fortunate to have worked with responsible, respectful, and very accountable musicians in all my projects. I would definitely need that in anything I do in the future. Too much work to have flakes or someone who isn’t pulling their wait or not showing up consistently. Influences (all over the map): Johnny Cash, Elvis, Needtobreathe, Tom Petty, John Cafferty & The Beaver Brown Band, Black Crows, 3 Doors Down, Third Eye Blind, Smashing Pumpkins, Billy Joel, Bad Company, Zepplin, Yardbirds, Billy Idol, 80’/90’s Hair Bands, GnR, Frank Turner, 90’s R&B, INXS, 80’s Pop, Sturgil Simpson, Outlaw Country, Southern Rock, Honestly, if it has a groove, I can dig it. As I said, I’m completely open to projects that sound fun or that I’m a good fit for, but some ideas that I think could be interesting: * An Elvis or even Elvis & Johnny Cash band. Not really thinking a ‘tribute’ with me dressing or emulating Elvis, just a band. Maybe we can all where some Elvis type elements, just for fun. In whatever I do, I’m all about ‘the show’ and making things unique and interesting to set us apart. I have a lower range and can sing Elvis pretty solid. We could do the songs traditionally or we could even put a modern of edgier rock twist on them. * 80’s Cover. To do this right, we have to select the songs that best fit my range. Keys are probably a good thing. Background vocals and harmonies are huge. * 90’s Modern Rock - my vocals probably fit this era better than 80’s. Just not nearly as fun and I’m not sure how marketable that would be(?). Lots of great songs from this time though. * Southern Rock Cover - I’m a 49 yo redneck from the Midwest. Lots and lots of great tunes and may not be as common in SoCal. Might be marketable ls. * One idea that I’ve had and have had fun with this on covers in my other bands is taking too 40 songs and making them rock. I want to keep things danceable and fun, but I’ve done edgier covers of Devil Inside (INXS), My Prerogative (Bobby Brown), Melt With You (Modern English), Devil In Disguise (Elvis), Wayfaring Stranger, Eastbound & Down (Jerry Reed) and I’ve even done a country hillbilly version of Paradise City (GnR). People always live hearing songs they know reimagined. I think you could build a successful project on that and keep it current with even new stuff as it climbs the charts. Anyway, on top of everything, if I’m sharing this much time with 3 or 4 other people each week, I want to have fun. I want band mates who take the project seriously, the show seriously, the commitments seriously, without taking themselves too seriously. No politics or agendas - I have my own. I won’t push them on you and I expect the same in return. I may have former band mates who would be interested in joining - just depends on what it is we come up with or find. I can send tons of links for YouTube or any streaming service, upon request. But first I figure we need to establish that there is interest and some commonality in what we are looking for. Thanks for your time!
