Wood Frame Garage Needs Painting, Repairs

Jobs

Drexel Hill PA

Description

Our old wood frame garage in Upper Darby is in dire disrepair. It needs to be stripped, primed with mildew resistant sealant/primer, and repainted (two coats). The window frames need the same treatment and one of the glass panels needs replacing (see photo). The side door has sustained water damage and might need to be replaced with a salvaged door. The garage is 13 feet wide, 15 feet deep, and 12 feet high at the pitch. We let it get to this point because we planned to tear it down and replace it, but the costs of a new garage are now exorbitant and therefore prohibitive. We are seeking a general contractor or handyperson with references and insurance. Ideally you'll bring a team of two or three. Our hope is that you'll do all of the work described above (stripping, sanding, priming, painting, door replacement, window repair, etc.) and then clean up the leavings and take them away. We're seeking bids but we do not intend to take the lowest number. However, an off-the-cuff "bid" of $5000.00 is unreasonably high and will tell us that you're not serious. We have no intention of paying a lump sum up front. We will pay you in cycles of eight to ten hours of completed and inspectable work. That's only fair to everyone involved. PLEASE NOTE: We won't reply unless you provide us with a brief proposal that breaks out your projected labor fees and cost of materials. If it will make things easier on you, and on us, we will purchase and provide all supplies ourselves and have them here for you and your team when you arrive. We're small business owners, too, and we know what to look for in a proposal and what traits to look for in a GC or handyperson. Ideally we want to hire someone we can work with in the future on other household projects. We rarely hire talent on a "one shot" basis. We want to build a professional relationship with someone local. Thanks for looking.
