Description
“Summer of Sol: Pasadena Black Equity Project Benefit Concert” is a local fundraiser to help Black Pasadena residents in need. Our guiding thematic prompt and question is: How do we honor our community’s light? How do we honor our sol? We will have a lineup of local, Black musicians and poets. We will have Jazz artist Dr. Ray Briggs, poet Josh Evans, musician okaycoleman!, and Los Angeles Poet Laureate Lynne Thompson. We will also have various activity booths including a chalk art station, a book sale, an art auction, a community photobooth/archive installation, and a community altar. Professional Black photographer Julien James @sirjulienjames will be running the photo booth. Participants will have the opportunity to keep their photos after the event and submit them to our digital community archive and to Julien’s ongoing project of Black family portraits. **Please feel free to bring materials you wish to put on the altar (e.g, photos, fruit, sweets, candles, water, drinks, flowers, art, etc.) along with printed copies (not originals!) of Black family photos you would like to include in the photo installation. All proceeds from the above will go to the Pasadena Black Equity Mutual Aid Fund to help Black Pasadena residents in need pay for essentials related to health, education, living, and community. We will also have local Black vendors selling food and drinks on site. **Covid Guidelines: Per LA County Public Health laws, proof of vaccination is required for entry. Masks are suggested. Temperature check at the entrance. Please stay home if you are feeling ill, we will refund your ticket. A limited amount of tickets will be sold at the door. -------------------------------------------------- ABOUT PASADENA BLACK EQUITY PROJECT The Pasadena Black Equity Project is a grassroots organization that hosts a mutual aid fund that aims to help Black residents and families of the greater Pasadena area pay for essentials amidst the pressures of a global pandemic, unemployment, housing insecurity, and racial injustice. As a local mutual aid fund network, our movement serves as a way for residents to help residents during this crisis by redistributing wealth and resources from those who are most comfortable to those who need them most. Our goal is to help one another and uplift those most impacted by both structural and personal hardships while creating an ongoing community of care and service.
