Good afternoon, I hope that this summer is proving to be restful and restorative for you all! As always, we would like to extend our thanks for everyone who has (and has offered to) assist us with various volunteer engagements throughout the summer. All of your hard work and commitment does not go unnoticed, and you're all a highly valued asset to Exodus' mission! This summer, starting during the week of July 4th, we are hosting an event to equip our refugee children with the backpacks and school supplies that they need to be set up for success. Year after year, this has been a fun and rewarding opportunity for community members to join Exodus in supporting refugee students cultivate confidence and excitement as they approach this next school year. Please read below for the following dates and activities that are available for this event! *********************************************** Week of July 4th (July 5th - July 8th; Exact date TBD): "Clothing Day" Location: Exodus Office (2457 E. Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) Purpose: To organize donated clothing for refugee children given by community partners. Time: 10A - 3P Instructions: Please arrive at the Exodus office at 10AM. Volunteers will be lead to a conference room where they will meet the Youth Program staff and receive instructions about how to go about organizing the clothing donations. The day's work is expected to be complete at 3PM. Volunteers Needed: 5 volunteers *********************************************** Wednesday, July 13th, 2022: "Backpack Day" Location: Exodus Office (2457 E. Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) Purpose: To pack 300 backpacks with school supplies. Time: 10A - 2P Instructions: Please arrive at the Exodus office at 10AM. Volunteers will be lead to a conference room where they will meet the Youth Program staff and receive instructions about how to go about stocking the backpacks. The day's work is expected to be complete at 2PM. Volunteers Needed: 10 volunteers *********************************************** Friday, July 15th, 2022: "Staging Day" Location: Exodus Office (2457 E. Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) Purpose: To organize the backpacks and clothing to give to families. Time: 1P - 4P Instructions: Please arrive at the Exodus office at 1PM. Volunteers will be lead to a conference room where they will meet the Youth Program staff and receive instructions about how to go about organizing the clothing donations and backpacks for the families. The day's work is expected to be complete at 4PM. Volunteers Needed: 5 volunteers *********************************************** Saturday, July 16th, 2022: "Distribution Day" Location: Exodus Office (2457 E. Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) Purpose: To manage supplies and clothing as Exodus clients come to pick them up from our office. Time: 9:30A - 2P Instructions: Please arrive at the Exodus office at 9:30AM. Volunteers will be lead to a conference room where they will meet the Youth Program staff and receive instructions about how to go about distributing the completed clothing donations and backpacks for the families. The day's work is expected to be complete at 2PM. Volunteers Needed: 3 volunteers *********************************************** Monday, July 18th, 2022: "Bag Pick up/Drop-off Day" Pick-up Location: Exodus Office (2457 E. Washington St. Ste. A Indianapolis, IN 46201) Purpose: To drop off the backpacks that were not picked up on Distribution Day and then drop them off at client homes on the volunteer's own time during the week. Time: 10A - 12P or 3P - 5P Instructions: Please arrive at the Exodus office between 10AM and 12PM or between 3PM and 5PM. Volunteers will be lead to a conference room where they will meet the Youth Program staff and receive instructions about which client address the volunteer will visit to drop off the backpack to. If volunteers have questions, volunteers should text the Youth Program Coordinator or the Youth Program Associate for direct coordination. The volunteer's day of work is complete once they drop off the backpack at the client's home. Volunteer will need to have a background check on file, as well as a copy of their driver's licenses and insurance card, in order to participate in this volunteer opportunity. Volunteers Needed: 4 volunteers *********************************************** Additional Details: Parking - please park in front of the Exodus building on the black top during your volunteer opportunity COVID safety - all volunteers will be asked to wear masks while in the building and participating in the event. Wherever possible, we will practice social-distancing.
