Description

Begin your journey at the Museum of Old Newbury for a day-long exploration of the world of Cecilia Beaux (1855-1942), the celebrated American portraitist whose subjects included First Lady Edith Roosevelt, Admiral Sir David Beatty, Georges Clemenceau, and our own Margaret Cushing. Begin the day with a snack and a quick visit with Beaux's 1913 Margaret Cushing portrait before leaving for the Cape Ann Museum. Visitors will make their own way to Gloucester (transportation not included with ticket). At the Cape Ann Museum, Curator Martha Oaks will lead the group through an exclusive examination of Beaux portraits not on public view and speak to her transformative relationship with Gloucester and her fellow artists. This is followed by a guided tour of the general collection of the museum. After a break for lunch on your own, our sojourn continues at Beauport, the summer residence of Henry Davis Sleeper (1878-1934). Beaux and Sleeper were part of a close circle of friends and neighbors on Gloucester’s Eastern Point. Enjoy a private tour of Beauport with a glimpse of Beaux’s home, Green Alley (in private ownership). $50, Museum of Old Newbury members only. Limit two tickets per member. You can join the museum at https://www.newburyhistory.org/membership If you are unsure if your membership is current, please call the office at 978-462-2681 or email [email protected].
