WORCESTER, MA — Demonstrators will rally at Worcester City Hall on Friday night following the U.S. Supreme Court decision overturning Roe V. Wade.
The "Out in the Streets to Defend Roe V. Wade and Reproductive Rights!" rally in Worcester will begin around 5 p.m. at city hall, 455 Main St. The rally is one of hundreds planned across the U.S. on Friday in the wake of the Roe decision.
Other rallies around the area will take place in Boston, Springfield, Attleborough, Providence and Ipswich, according to the group We Won't Go Back.
Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, a George W. Bush appointee, wrote Friday's decision, which ends constitutional protections for abortion. The decision will likely lead to dozens of states outlawing the medical procedure. Massachusetts state law explicitly protects abortion rights.
Alito's decision was leaked in May in POLITICO, prompting nationwide protests, including one in Worcester outside the superior court building.
