PHILADELPHIA — Two people died in a Christmas Day shooting incident in Philadelphia's Kensington section, according to police. Police said Jesus Perez, 43, and Jeremy Perez, 15, died from gunshot wounds suffered at about 12:22 a.m. on Christmas. Jesus Perez is accused of shooting Jeremy Perez and was then shot by Philadelphia Police, according to authorities. Officers were called to the 3300 block of Emerald Street for a report of a fight in the roadway. Officers Timothy Strano and Leggie Thompson arrived and tried to break up the fight, meanwhile other people came out to the street. Police said people began pushing and punching one another and that's when Jesus Perez pulled out a handgun, firing it and hitting Jeremy Perez as well as a 17-year-old boy. Strano and Thompson then pulled out their firearms and shot at Jesus Perez, striking him in the torso, police said. Police took the gun Jesus Perez fired and determined it had been stolen in Virgina. All three were taken to Temple University Hospital, where Jesus and Jeremy Perez were pronounced dead. The 17 year old is in stable condition. "The decision to utilize deadly force is the most serious action a police officer can undertake," said Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw. "As such, we will ensure that a thorough, complete and objective investigation takes place. I would implore any and all first-hand eye-witnesses to come forward and share their accounts with our investigators." Strano, 39, is a six-year veteran of the Philadelphia Police Department, and Thompson is a 45-years-old, nine-month veteran.
