Position Title: Janitorial/Custodian Job Category: Support Staff Location: Campus - ALL Department: Campus Support Supervisor: Campus President or Campus Manager Travel Required: Yes Hourly/Non Exempt Hours: As Assigned Position Description: The primary objective of a Janitor/Custodian is to promote the care of building and other use areas by cleaning the facilities. They are responsible for day-to-day cleaning of the building & grounds. Responsibilities include but may not be limited to cleaning toilets, cleaning classrooms, performing litter patrol and hauling garbage within assigned areas, etc. Role and Responsibilities: • Day-to-day building cleaning, o Clean and supply designated building areas, removing debris, Keep areas neat and tidy. o Vacuuming, sweeping, and mopping of flooring and stairs o Empty all trash cans and replace liners, clean receptacles as necessary. o Dusting as needed, o Cleaning ceiling vents, and windowsills and windows • Clean sinks, countertops, microwaves, and refrigerators in break rooms. • Restroom maintenance o Clean and sanitize bathrooms o Restock supplies in bathrooms, break rooms and common areas. • Floor Buffing & Carpet Cleaning • General repair (bulbs, ceiling tiles etc.) • Stock and maintain supply rooms & Equipment o Inventory and ordering of supplies o Maintain janitor closets in a clean, organized and safe manner. o Maintain janitorial equipment in a clean, safe and operable condition. o Proper labeling, dilution and use of all chemicals • Assistance with special events • Perform and document routine inspection and maintenance activities • Carry out heavy cleansing tasks and special projects • Notify management of occurring deficiencies or needs for repairs • Make adjustments and minor repairs • Cooperate with the rest of the staff • Follow all health and safety regulations • General maintenance of grounds on a daily basis (washing patio, empty trash etc.) • Other duties that may be assigned Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: Janitorial personnel must possess basic skills in housekeeping. 1 year of maintenance experience preferred, experience with power floor buffer, and carpet cleaner machinery. Able to lift 50 lbs. Proven working experience as a janitor, Ability to handle heavy equipment and machinery, Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and supplies, Familiarity with Material Safety Data Sheets, Integrity and ability to work independently. Licensure Requirements: • None Future Training Requirements: • Maybe required Physical / Working Requirements: WORKING ENVIRONMENT: The work is performed in in a climate controlled environment with minimal of safety/health hazard potential, lifting (overhead, waist level) from floor, bending, frequent the noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The work requires routine walking, standing, bending and carrying items weighing more than fifty Lbs. Special Requirements: May be subject to a background check and/or LifeScan prior to employment. May require a CA driver’s License. Performance Evaluation Criteria: Performance Factors: The following performance factors will be considered in evaluating the employee. Each area’s performance is based upon a scale of 1 through 5 with the following definitions: 1 = Excellent (Outstanding effort-no adjustments needed) 2 = Good (Very Minimal adjustments necessary) 3 = Fair (Some adjustments necessary)* 4 = Poor (Major adjustments required)* 5 = Unacceptable (Serious Deficiencies noted – Probationary status)* (*) = Supervisor required including written notes, comments and goals required to improve performance Areas of Performance: ATTENDENCE Factors to be considered include employee’s history of attendance during the review period including early quits and tardiness WORK PRODUCT Factors to be considered include the quantity of work assigned and completed, accuracy and quality of work assignments, thoroughness, job knowledge, skill level, timeliness of completed assignments, etc. WORK HABITS Factors to be considered include ability to follow instructions, communication with supervisor, ability to work independently without close supervision. RELATIONS WITH OTHERS Factors to be considered include ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members, students and management; ability to work as part of a team and/or cooperation with other departments to achieve goals.
