JOLIET, IL — A young local woman was throwing bottles and fresh produce at other customers inside the new Thorntons on Collins Street Monday night and when officers arrived, she proclaimed being a gang member and a "JPD Killer," Joliet police informed Patch. The incident led to Jathziri Cruz's arrest on charges of possessing a fraudulent ID card, criminal trespass to land and disorderly conduct. Joliet squad cars pulled up to the Thorntons gas station around 7:20 p.m. for a disturbance call. "Upon arrival, officers learned that Cruz began throwing bottles and produce at staff and other customers, causing staff to contact 911," according to police. "Officers made contact with Cruz who then began screaming at the officers, advising that she was a gang member and a 'JPD Killer.'" Officers put Cruz in handcuffs and initially brought her to the Joliet police station. "Officers located a United States of America Permanent Resident Card in Cruz's property that appeared to be fraudulent. Cruz confirmed to Officers that the card was indeed fraudulent. Officers recovered the fraudulent card and transported Cruz to the Will County Jail," police stated. Although Joliet police records indicate that Cruz is homeless, records from the Will County Jail list the 23-year-old woman as being a resident of the 1200 block of Woodruff Road, which isn't that far away from the Thorntons. Joliet's new Thorntons at 400 Collins Street opened in August. The convenience store inside the new Thorntons includes a large beer cooler. Image via John Ferak/Patch
