Description

Adults and children ages twelve and up are invited to make their own clay masterpieces in the Massillon Museum’s Salt and Pepper Shaker Sgraffito Workshop on Thursday, July 28, from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.! Mary Clark of Tiny Cloud Ceramics, assisted by Erica Backer of Cozy Cottage Ceramics, will show you how to use the pottery technique sgraffito to decorate a pair of premade corkless salt and pepper shakers! Participants will use underglaze to paint the clay and then carve back into the shakers to create contrasting lines in whatever pattern they want. Learn what marks different tools make and how underglaze mixing works. This workshop will consist of sketching designs on paper, testing clay techniques on a flat tile, and then decorating the shakers. Pieces will be clear glazed by instructors at the end unless otherwise preferred. Register via Eventbrite or by calling 330-833-4061. The fee, $60 ($50 for MassMu members), includes all supplies. The Massillon Museum’s ceramics studio is located in the former Chamber of Commerce office at the corner of Lincoln Way East and City Hall Street. It is accessed through the Museum’s main entrance. The Massillon Museum is located at 121 Lincoln Way East (Ohio Route 172) in downtown Massillon. A visit to the Massillon Museum is always free and everyone is welcome. Free parking is available on adjacent streets and in nearby city lots. For more information, call the Museum at 330-833-4061 or visit massillonmuseum.org.
