Description

Something is brewing in New Orleans' hospitality industry. Sector leaders are coming together to promote sustainable practices and they want to share their commitments and accomplishments with the whole city! Join us for the launch of a Zero Waste Campaign where you can share your successes - no matter how big or small - as collectively, we build a stronger, more resilient community. Zero Waste in New Orleans? Sound crazy? That's why we are here. The truth is that there will always be "waste" - but that waste doesn't have to go into a landfill. Trash is wasted resources and wasted money on a finite planet that needs our help now more than ever. And furthermore - that's what our visitors and residents want to see. So, we can do what New Orleans does best: lets turn this challenge into a party that gives back to our community - through things like compostable cups. ;) At this workshop you will have the chance to learn about how your company can divert waste from landfill through diversion efforts like composting, recycling (plastic, glass, oyster shells, cardboard etc) and purchasing post consumer goods like single-use compostable cups and utensils. All participants will define their baseline waste diversion and earn badges for implementing best practices. Leaders who implement changes will be marketed through our partner umbrella organizations supporting this Campaign. Best of all? Collectively, we can build a stronger, more resielient City as we see how our individual progress supports a collective effort throughout the campaign. Even if you start small, every effort conributes to the greater good. The workshop will have the following agenda: 8:30-9:00 Breakfast 9:00-9:45: Waste Diversion Expert Panel - learn from the top hotels and service providers already implementing successful solutions that make financial sense. 9:45-10:30: Meet the Service Providers: network and learn from the local companies who can help you divert from the landfill. 10:30-11:00: Networking We'll ask organizations to start tracking progress after the event, and after three months of implementation - we'll celebrate our success! Eleanor Roosevelt once said that “True hospitality consists of giving the best of yourself to your guests.” Let's give New Orleans our best!
