Description

Only 6% of mothers in Rhode Island who had their child between the ages of 15 and 25 go on to earn a post-secondary degree. Please join us as we work with student parent leaders to significantly increase the number of parenting students who earn post-secondary credentials. About this event Dunamis Synergy is a 2 Generation cross sector collective impact initiative that seeks to triple the number of student parents earning degrees and post-secondary credentials over the next decade in Rhode Island. With the West Elmwood Housing Development Corporation as the initiative’s backbone organization, and in close collaboration with the Rhode Island Department of Human Services, the Rhode Island Office of the Post-Secondary Commissioner, and a cross sector collaboration of post-secondary and community based partners and student parent leaders, we invite you to join our effort to develop an inaugural strategic plan for the initiative to improve college access, retention, and completion, among parenting students while simultaneously preparing their young children to thrive. With support from Ascend at the Aspen Institute and the United Way of Rhode Island, Dunamis Synergy takes a system change approach to address policies that make it difficult for student parents to achieve their academic goals. This convening will: 1) provide student parents with the opportunity to share their stories with partner organizations, 2) Learn about best practices nationally, and 3) provide data on the student parent population in Rhode Island. Together, we will begin work to identify and develop mutually held outcomes and strategies to support student parents in Rhode Island to achieve their post-secondary ambitions and build more prosperous futures for their families. Light breakfast will be provided at 8:30 am and the meeting will start promptly at 9:00.
