So you are 81 years old (21+60) and you bought your first gun in 1962? Did I do my math right? I want to know what country you grew up in? I purchased my first rifle when I was 18 years old in 1965. I was not required to fill out any papers whatsoever at the time other than maybe showing my ID. You could buy a long gun (rifle or shotgun) at age 18 and you were required to be 21 to buy a handgun. Other than being age 21, I don’t believe there were any hoops to jump through to buy a handgun at that time. I turned 21 in early 1968 and I cannot recall filling out any federal forms at the time when I bought a handgun. Then came the Gun Control Act of 1968. Filling out a form was then required to purchase a gun (any gun). I can’t remember the form number. Not sure if it was 4473 or not (sounds right). You were asked about 8 to 10 questions on the form, if I remember correctly and if you answered any of them in the affirmative, you were not permitted to buy a gun. The age required to buy long guns or handguns was still 18 and 21 respectively. This was federal law and enforced by the ATF so I have no idea where you are coming up with age 21 being required to buy a long gun unless it was state law in some state other than Iowa.
You sure are trusting of the left! You must be a lefty yourself and did not bother to read my reply (Re: gun safety) or you can’t comprehend what you read. What comes next is you will have to have a mental evaluation before you are allowed to buy a gun. In other words, you will be assumed to be mentally unfit until you prove you are fit during your evaluation. I’ve got $10 on it! This new law is not quite a done deal yet. The House still has to approve it. They will probably amend it to include the mental evaluation requirement. I pray I am wrong!
