You're right about being able to buy a long gun at age 18 but a pistol the age was and should be 21. There was a 7 to 10 day waiting period. That was accepted as normal back then. It was my mistake of not mentioning it was a pistol. I grew up in another state. Same Federal Laws applied there. The people that couldn't pass the check were the one's against it -- just like now. Background checks aren't going to solve the problems of this day and age but it can't hurt anything except possibly stop some trouble maker from going nuts and killing somebody. If you think that a background check is going to lead to confiscating everyone's guns -- you have a problem. The problem I see in this country is a total lack of self control and self discipline by a lot of people. This problem is an American problem -- every American's problem. Not a Partisan problem. I'm smart enough not to be affiliated with either of the major parties -- I don't cling to one Party Line or the Other -- I have a mind of my own. Listening to all the stupid crap going on today -- I listen to candidates regardless of party and pick the person best qualified for the job they're running for. One thing I learned a long time ago is there are bad people in every party - morally corrupt people and many incompetent people. I want people that know the Constitution and believe what it stands for and when they take an oath to uphold the Constitution - stand by the oath they take. As long as we have elected officials that Believe in and uphold the Constitution -- We will never lose our right to have and own guns. That's a Guaranteed Right -- Guaranteed by the Constitution. We've seen a lot of elected officials that haven't done that in the last few years. This country is in trouble with all the violence and the divisions -- the US I grew up in is liable not to be around for my Great Grand Kids to grow up in. Lying by our Government and EX Government officials is rampant and it's tearing our Country apart. Vote out these people -- get elected officials that work together to solve the problems of this country. WE THE CITIZENS of this country deserve it. And yes. I'm pushing 80 years old hard - but unlike a lot of people in this country - my MIND is still sharp.
