It would be remiss if we recognized Juneteenth without deeply engaging in abolitionist and transformative justice practices. This is just one night of conversation on a long term journey toward reimagining our realities facilitated by Nia (they/them) and you (the community). Please join us Tuesday, June 28th at 6pm in the experiential space at lululemon (208 Newbury St). Here’s what we’ll be discussing: Livestream will have closed captions. Participants will be asked for their consent should we collectively choose to record our conversation. Trigger warning: We will be discussing state violence, intimate partner violence, conditions of enslaved folx, abuse, and death. Nia Sadler (Winston-Salem, NC) is a dancer and full time lululemon educator at Newbury St. They hold a BFA in choreography and performance with disciplinary honors from University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). Outside of dancing with Urbanity Dance in Boston and working with lulu, they are heavily involved with an abolitionist grassroots organization called Triad Abolition Project. We are a collective of abolitionists in Winston-Salem who are organizing to end the violence of the carceral state and imagining safety and care beyond law enforcement and imprisonment.
