Free Peoples
When Sam Hamby of Marshall House Project told us about his other project – Free Peoples – we knew it was only a matter of time before they’d make their way into the Crazy Horse. Sam is one of the most tasteful guitarists we know and a powerhouse of vocal soul. If you saw MHP’s last show here, you were awestruck like the rest of us with the ferocious, funky bass playing of Mike DiPirro. This grizzled veteran of the Bay Area music scene has a command of his instrument that stands out from most. The point being, Mike D is also in Free Peoples which further cements this band as a must-see.
Other than the high level of musicianship, what can you expect from this show? These "Intergalactic Afro-Cowboys" will be serving up two sets of stylistically eclectic escapades ranging through the realms of funky, Americana rock, jamgrass, a little bit of blues and a buttery infusion of tasty jazz licks. They’ve got rootsy originals going back to their inception over 20 years ago and unexpected covers that will have the dancefloor stomping. This is cosmic barroom music like they’ve been making for ages, but with a fresh twist unlike you’ve ever heard.
