Description
This training is intended for those who run programs, and/or work directly with individuals, youth, and families experiencing homelessness. The training is financially sponsored by HOPE Service Hawaii, Neighborhood Place of Puna, and Community Alliance Partners. This event is free for employees of sponsoring agencies. For all others the cost is $100. The cost may be reduced if funding becomes available. If you are not from a participating agency, please register with the "Free" option, and you will be billed for the final amount before the event starts. The training is informed by the Housing First model of service delivery. Housing First is a homeless assistance approach that prioritizes providing permanent housing to people experiencing homelessness, thus ending their homelessness and serving as a platform from which they can pursue personal goals and improve their quality of life. This approach is guided by years of evidence demonstrating that housing programs are more likely to have long-term success when participants’ basic needs (food, safety, shelter, etc.) are prioritized over anything not critical to survival (employment, sobriety, budgeting, etc.). Additionally, Housing First recognizes that success is largely dependent on participant buy-in, and centers the participant's choice in housing selection and supportive service participation. The training is provided by OrgCode Consulting. The OrgCode team has extensive experience in helping nonprofits and government agencies implement and improve their Housing First approach, including right here in Hawaiʻi County. We are excited that they will be joining us again to help us help families and individuals get off the streets and into permanent housing! Who should attend: 1. Direct service homelessness staff involved in outreach, housing navigation, housing location, and providing shelter. 2. Support staff who want to gain a better understanding of housing first. 3. Staff at organizations that serve as Homelessness Access Points. 4. Individuals and Organizations who work with the homeless in other capacities.5. Staff from organizations that are considering providing shelter or housing for homeless individuals or families. 6. Faith Community members and groups working to understand and address homelessness in our community. This is a 2 day training.
