Class DescriptionRyan Rupprecht of ryancharlesphotography.com will be breaking down the basics of using a flash or strobe into a short, fun and highly informational one hour class. If you have a single flash, or you are a pure strobists, Ryan’s lecture will have something to offer you. The class begins with an introduction to the exposure triangle and how to work flash into the equation. We will talk about the language of lighting, how flash interacts with the camera and lens, and some of the characteristics of flash that make it unique. Once we establish an understanding of flash, Ryan will then demonstrate best practices for lighting a subject. He will go over positioning of the key light, and discuss the inclusion of other elements that are helpful to making a portrait such as flags, reflectors and accent lights. The class will wrap up with some tips about light modifiers, and other gear that Ryan has found useful when building a lighting kit. We will then break for Lunch and questions while Ryan and the Camera Mall crew build some lighting setups for you try with some of Ann Arbors most patient models. Sign up for the demo below! His career has been a blend of working in studio and freelancing, which has given him a unique and practical perspective on the technical art of photography. A strobist at heart, Ryan is most in his element when crafting images using the light he creates. Ryan is also a Certified Professional Photographer through PPA, and has taught classes from the basics of photography, portrait lighting and posing, to more extensive classes on photographing events and wedding days. Do I need to pre-register?Yes, we have limited seating, so pre-registration is required. What do I bring to class?Pen and paper for taking notes.If you'd like to write down any questions you have, you're welcome to bring those with you. We will do our best to get to as many as your questions as we can.You're also welcome to bring your camera and flash. While this class is more lecture-style, we will be having a demo later in the day on how to take what you learned from Ryan and put it to action!
