Bassist looking for Group, drummer

Meets

Denver CO

Description

I am looking for mature, creative, experienced players with a high level of skill and musicality. Also looking for people I get along with interpersonally, of course! I have been playing for 50 years, all styles (religious, soul, funk, rock, Latin, folk, church... but jazz mostly for the last 25 years)... and I draw from all of them. I toured in bands for years, playing guitar and switched to bass in the 80's. I play upright, but looking for collaborations playing fretless electric for several reasons now. I can read charts. I enjoy standards and arranging them, but also off-the-path stuff, and while gigs are nice, they are not essential to my goals. What I am looking for could include a jazz pianist or guitarist for duo, an established group (jazz or pseudo-jazz). Also looking for a drummer who would be a fit for a current piano-bass project I've been doing. That drummer would 1) be very skilled at brush work, able to play low volume, and adept at 3/4 waltz; 2) willing to rehearse a bit (I believe in getting piano-bass arranged first, then bringing in others); and 3), interested in the music we are focusing on-- lyrical and interesting changes with a significant amount of Michel Petrucciani and Bill Evans, mixed with Chick, Enrico Pieranunzi, and others... less focus on RealBook standards. I will entertain interesting, eclectic projects, including not jazz... but not really looking to do fusion, "smooth jazz", "wedding gig". I can send a list of tunes and links as required. Tend to rehearse bi-weekly downtown.
