Description Limited to 25 families. Formal Event: 10:00 am - 1:30 pm. PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Formal presentations include history of D4D, how we train are dogs, eligibility criteria, and interactions with the dogs. Check-in on the day of the event: 9:30 am - 10:00 am Open House: 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm. NO REGISTRATION REQUIRED. Tour the facility and speak with D4D staff and interact with the dogs. Dogs4Diabetics Kids & Teens Summer Camp… Join us for this fun-filled day and learn what having a Medical-Alert Service Dog or a Diabetes Buddy Dog is all about! D4D staff and current D4D youth and adult clients will be on hand to discuss: - Discuss what having a D4D Medical-Alert Service Dog or Diabetes Buddy Dog is all about and how it helps a child/teen better manage their diabetes. - Discuss the process for getting a D4D Medical-Alert Service Dog or Diabetes Buddy Dog. - Discuss some of the unique concerns that parents and youth clients have about having a service dog or a buddy dog. You will also learn how these dogs are trained, how they support Type 1 Diabetics with diabetes, and about canine obedience. We will have dogs on hand for you to handle, play with, and take for a walk! There will be plenty of time to mingle with the D4D staff, snuggle with the dogs, and arts/crafts/games for the kids. We hope you can join us! We guarantee it will be fun and informative time! FAQs Does a Parent have to attend? Yes. Parents are key in assisting and supporting their child/teen to eventually get and partner with a Medical-Alert Service Dog or Diabetes Buddy Dog. Due to dog constraints, the event is limited to 25 children/teens with Type 1 Diabetes and their parents. Can other family members attend? Yes. Parents and siblings may attend. How do I register for this event? Register via the "Register" button on the main events page or under the "Events" tab on D4D’s website: www.ourdogssavelives.org What are Parents responsible for? Managing their child/teen’s diabetes during the session including but not limited to checking blood sugars, counting carbohydrates, dosing insulin, managing injections or pumps and sensors, and treating a low or high blood sugar. And, please provide ALL their child/teen’s diabetes supplies and lunch, snack, and drinks. What will D4D will provide? Bottled water. What are my transport/parking options getting to the event? Parking is free and plentiful. Check directions via Google map. Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? Yes, please. One ticket per child/teen with Type 1 Diabetes. Other family members (parents/siblings) do not need tickets. However, please indicate ALL family members who will be attending the event when registering besides child/teen with Type 1 Diabetes.
