Job Summary: Assists Yard Manager in keeping the flow of plant material moving efficiently, works with buyers to prepare for incoming shipments and maintains a stock of plants. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following (other duties may be assigned): Receiving • Verify that plants, materials, and supplies match the quantity ordered. • Unload all incoming shipments safely and efficiently. • Understand procedure to follow when shipments do not match the order • Sign, collect and turn in all delivery tickets/packing slips/sales receipts to the Yard Manager in a timely fashion. • Know where incoming shipments of plants, materials, and supplies belong and place shipment accordingly. Plant Area • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of plant identification: annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs. • Keep plants organized and tagged in properly designated areas according to job destination/job number/ work order, for easy identification and efficient loading. • Understand horticultural principles such as proper watering levels, shade vs. sun, and sing of plant diseases and stress: Inform the Yard Manager of stresses plants material. • Operate, program, maintain and repair irrigation system. • Assist crews with accurate and efficient loading of plants for jobs. • Enforce plant loading rules; do not load plants without a work order. • Track and organize all plant returns and inform the Yard Manager of all returns and available plant material. Bulk Material Loading • Verify that load ticket has work order/job number • Load proper quantity of correct material; know loader bucket yardage. • Prioritize loading requests during busy times. • Understand truckloads limits and never overload trucks. • Load trucks safely, being careful not to damage trucks or trailers. Waste • Record work order/ job number of the site where the waste originated. • Inform Yard Manager when bins/dumpsters are filling up • Load waste-hauling trucks as needed. General • Always maintain a clean yard: pick up trash, and debris daily around the entire property: keep concrete areas swept clean, and bulk material area as tidy as possible. • Know where all plants, material, supplies, trucks, trailers equipment attachments, tools, and pallets belong and are kept organized accordingly. • Understand safe handling of fertilizer, roundup, and assist crews with requests. • Consistently communicate inventory levels to the Yard Manager. • Develop a full working knowledge of skid steer, loader, and telehandler operation including proper maintenance process. • Keep all yard machines clean and in good working conditions.
