Second Use Building Materials, Seattle's largest architectural salvage yard, is seeking a full time staff member to work in our receiving department. WHO WE ARE Second Use is a community-focused business dedicated to diverting reusable building materials from the landfill and selling them to the public at an affordable cost through our retail stores. We acquire building materials (doors, cabinets, windows, appliances, flooring, hardware, and architectural antiques) from buildings slated for remodel or demolition, as well as leftover materials from contractors and build projects. We present the salvaged materials in our SODO store as well as our website (seconduse.com). Store staff prep the materials for sale and help customers find materials they can use in their projects. Our staff members share a passion for keeping good stuff from going to waste, an interest in old stuff, a strong work ethic, and general sense of humor. We are looking to hire and train a full time Receiving team member. BENEFITS -Medical -Dental -Paid time off -Employee discount -Quarterly store credit dividends JOB DESCRIPTION Salvage Buyer/Receiver Typical Receiving work functions: -Negotiate purchase/donation/acquisition of quality reusable building materials from the public -Unload incoming material and prepare for sale in retail store -Research and price incoming materials -Photograph materials for website -Independent work in a team environment More Generally this Position Includes: -Potential for learning and advancement -Working within a team and independently -Maintaining a safe and organized work environment -Typical work weeks are (4) 10 hour days including one weekend day An ideal candidate will have these qualifications: -Must be a self-motivated and reliable worker -Enthusiasm for a safe work environment -Must be a hard worker willing to put in a full 10 hour day at 100% -Must be able to lift 70 lbs all day long -Proficiency with computer systems These qualifications are useful in this position: -This position requires negotiation skills and knowledge of a wide range of materials.
