Research Volunteers Needed For a 9-week Study on Acupuncture for Chronic Low Back Pain (IRB#22811) • Ages 18-75 • Must be available Tuesdays 9:30 am -3:30 pm and Wednesdays through Fridays 11:30-1:30 on some weeks • The study requires a 9-week commitment and estimated 38.5 total hours of study participation • Intervention consists of 17 twice a week electroacupuncture sessions • In addition, during study weeks 1, 5 and 9 daily visits between Tuesday – Friday are required for: o pain-related evoked potentials (only low-grade noxious stimulus will be applied), non-invasive o quantitative sensory testing, non-invasive o a brief 20-item pain-rating questionnaire • To qualify you must o Have uncomplicated low back pain for more than 3 months • Low back pain conditions which DO NOT QUALIFY include: low back pain caused by infection, tumor, osteoporosis, lumbar spine fracture, structural deformity, prior lumbar spine surgery, inflammatory disorder, radiculopathy (sciatica), cauda equina syndrome • Subject compensation upon study completion: $800 • If interested and for further information about the study, please contact: Alexandra Dimitrova, MD, MCR Principal Investigator
