Erin I. Kelly collaborated with the late Winfred Rembert (1945-2021) to write his memoir, Chasing Me to My Grave. She is Professor of Philosophy at Tufts University, where she specializes in political and legal philosophy, especially concerning criminal law. She is the author of The Limits of Blame: Rethinking Punishment and Responsibility (Harvard Univ. Press, 2018), which criticizes the role of moral blame and retribution in the overly punitive American criminal justice system. Her current work aims, among other things, to develop philosophical conceptions of reparative and transformative justice as alternatives to retributive accounts of punishment.
