SECOND ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT/FOREMAN: Position Summary: The 2nd Assistant Superintendent reports directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and is responsible for the management and maintenance of the Golf Course at Wente Vineyards and supervision of the golf course and ground’s maintenance staff. Successful Candidates Will Possess: • A minimum of 2 years golf course experience • 2-4-year degree or certification in turfgrass management or related field. • Valid California QAL/QAC or the ability to obtain within 90 days of employment • Irrigation experience (troubleshooting, repairs, programming, watering) • Experience safely applying and monitoring chemical and fertilizer applications • Ability to operate equipment associated with golf course maintenance • Project management experience • Strong leadership skills including the ability to effectively motivate a team • Organizational skills • Strong work ethic and attention to detail • Applicant must be fast paced and ready to adapt to situations that arise • Applicant should show passion for the industry with a mindset of someday becoming a superintendent • Bilingual, or willingness to learn Spanish to better communicate with crew Essential Duties: • Supervision and quality control • Monitoring fertility / scouting for problems • Scheduling of staff • Fertilizer and Pesticide applications, including; calculations, calibration of equipment, applying, and record keeping • Ability to operate a wide range of equipment (tractors, mowers, spray equipment, rollers, and small equipment) • Irrigation management (spot watering, scheduling, repairs, trouble-shooting, and project coordination) • Provide daily communication with the clubhouse staff concerning the course Compensation: • $27.00 - $29.00 / hour – Depending on experience APPLY NOW: ASSISTANT IN TRAINING: The Course at Wente Vineyards is seeking a hardworking and highly motivated individual with a positive attitude who wants to gain further knowledge and experience in the golf course industry. This person will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendents on all aspects of golf course maintenance. They will be trained on the operation of powered equipment related to mowing and cultural practices, fertilizer and pesticide calibration/application, and water management. They will also contribute in daily crew scheduling and supervision learning all the tools needed to become an Assistant and eventually a Golf Course Superintendent. Applicants should possess an Associate, Bachelor, or Certificate in Turf Management or previous golf course experience. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: The Assistant in Training will be trained on the following tasks and activities: 1. Programming and scheduling irrigation 2. Troubleshooting and making irrigation repairs 3. Golf course setup 4. Mowing greens, tees, approaches, collars, fairways, roughs, etc. 5. Spot watering greens, tees, and fairways 6. Assisting in pesticide and fertilizer applications. 7. Developing daily work schedules and an introduction to developing and executing an Agronomic Program 8. Introduction to developing operational and capital budgets. 9. Preparing for and effectively running meetings. 10. Multi-tasking and coordination of projects. COMPENSATION: $18-20/hour, with the opportunity of advancement for the right individual.
