Description
This on-going class takes place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, outside in the healing heart of nature in beautiful Gleason Park, Indian Harbor Beach. Qigong in general uses 1. Breath work 2. Visualization 3. Special Movements and 4. Massage to create a balanced approach to mindbody wellness. Each session includes gentle warm-ups and cool-downs, heart/brain coherence meditation, the 5th century qigong classic Yi Jin Ching and the flowing Wu Xian. Yi Jin Ching or DaMo 18 Muscle-Tendon Changing Classics, is a highly sought after practice in qigong. It’s an honor to share it with you. In modern terms, this practice consists of 18 different specialized exercises repeated 3 times each. Each practice includes: breath work, bi-lateral isometric strengthening, balance and flexibility work. As a muscle/fascia expert (massage therapist for 20 years), I can attest that this practice resets the fascia, pulling the bones into better alignment. It also works as mental health therapy by employing practices now used in Rapid Resolution Therapy. Truly this is mind/body/spirit health at it’s finest, which is why I practice this set every single day as part of my own self-health care. We then move into flow with Wu Xian or 5 Beasts at Play, (not to be confused with The 5 Animal Frolics qigong). This practice looks and feels like tai chi but focuses on lengthening the breath to stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system while flowing through the graceful movements of the 5 beasts: Dragon, Snake, Tiger, Leopard and Crane, balancing the 5 elements within. These practices are just one part of the traditional temple training from Shaolin Temple in China known as The Way of the Pointing Hand. The Yi Jin Ching is THE practice that made Shaolin the martial arts capital of the world. Wu Xian practice was why Shaolin monks remained undefeated warriors for centuries. You don’t have to be a Buddhist, Daoist, warrior or monk to reap major health benefits from these practices. Safe and efficient training to focus the mind, balance the body and renew the spirit. We meet OUTSIDE in Gleason Park on the north side of the lake near the gazebo and picnic tables closest to the stoplight on S. Patrick Dr. We meet rain or shine, cold or heat and train the traditional way so we are adapted to our environment. If it rains, we go inside the gazebo. If the weather doesn’t suit you, just skip that day and come to the next session. $10/class payable here or in person at class via cash or Venmo. Certified instructor Lea Williamson is a ShiFu (expert, just below master rank) of this particular qigong lineage and trained for years before being honored with the right to teach these powerful (formerly secret) practices. All you have to do is show up to receive the transmission of this ancient healing knowledge. More info on qigong, tai chi and the instructor can be found at: www.BeachsideQigong.com
