TOWSON, MD — After 100 workers at the Apple store in Towson Town Center became the first in the technology company to unionize, President Joseph Biden reportedly said: "I am proud of them." Employees of the Towson Apple store voted on Saturday to join the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), a union with about 600,000 members of industrial trades, from airlines to health care. Workers said in a letter to Apple CEO Tim Cook in May that they wanted to unionize to get access to rights they did not have, such as collective bargaining. Some employees said their colleagues were highly skilled and worked for a $3 trillion company yet struggled to pay rent, in a video by More Perfect Union, a media organization advocating for workers' rights. "Workers have a right to determine under what condition they are going to work or not work," Biden told reporters on Monday, according to Reuters. "This victory shows the growing demand for unions at Apple stores and different industries across our nation," IAM International President Robert Martinez Jr. said in a statement.
