Click here to learn more. Here are the top three stories in Charleston today: Dozens of Charleston firefighters gathered in front of city hall to demand better pay. The firefighters report that the $39,000 per year starting pay is not enough to live where they work. The protest comes mere days after the city paid tribute to the Charleston 9 — the highest number of firefighter fatalities in a single event since 9/11. (Live 5 News WCSC)The new State Ports Authority chief executive reports that cargo levels for the Port of Charleston should return to normal in the Fiscal Year 2023. Barbara Melvin will succeed Jim Newsome as the CEO of the SPA on Jul. 1. The drop in cargo levels should be about 2 percent. The decrease is based on consumers traveling more while eating out more. (Charleston Post Courier)A North Charleston apartment complex shooting has left one individual with injuries. The incident occurred on Monday night at the Exchange at Windsor Hill on Windsor Hill Blvd. The victim was reportedly walking to their car when they were struck by gunfire.
