HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken police asked people to avoid the southwest corner of the city on Monday night as a fire burned on the Jersey City side of the light rail tracks.
Twitter users posted video of flames shooting up and of first responders attending to the blaze.
NJ Transit said:
HBLR service is temporaryly suspended near Hoboken due to fire department activity. Trains will operate from Tonnelle Ave. to Secaucus and from West Side Ave. to Newport.— Hudson-Bergen Light Rail (@NJTRANSIT_HBLR) June 21, 2022 Police explained:
We are respond to our western boundary behind the Hoboken Business center on the report of a fire. The fire appears to be on the Jersey City side of the Hudson Light Rail tracks. Please avoid this area. The Hudson Light Rail will most likely be delayed.— Hoboken Police (@HobokenPD) June 21, 2022 The light rail had also been suspended for a brief time earlier that evening due to a suspicious package (more about that here).
But by 10:30 p.m. Monday, the light rail had started up again.
