TINLEY PARK, IL — Tinley Park residents are under Tier 1 watering restrictions this summer, village officials said. While the restrictions have been in place since May, residents were reminded of the conservation effort Tuesday due to extreme temperatures.
Outdoor watering is only permitted between 7 - 11 a.m. and 7 - 11 p.m. for homes with an odd-numbered addresses on odd-numbered dates and vice versa for even-numbered homes.

The restrictions were put in place due to high temperatures and a lack of rain in the forecast. The restrictions also apply to residents who have permits to water everyday because of new landscaping, according to the Village.
Other conservation tips from the village include watering with a timed sprinkler, watering based on rain gauge measures and applying additional mulch around trees and plants to better retain moisture.
According to the village, residents lose an average of 8.5 percent of their water each year, much lower than the average of the other 217 areas that pull water from Lake Michigan.
