Press release from the St. Louis County Government: June 16, 2022 ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (June 16, 2022) - Dr. Faisal Khan, the acting director of the Department of Public Health, is resigning effective Sept. 2. Dr. Khan led the department as it responded to the COVID-19 pandemic, putting in place measures that saved lives, and he has worked to expand access to reproductive health services and improve health outcomes for all our residents. "We appreciate the passion and leadership of Dr. Khan and wish him well in his next chapter," said County Executive Dr. Sam Page. "Like health directors across the country, he faced intense criticism, including threats against his life, for following science and data in making decisions to keep our community safe from a deadly virus." An interim director will be named prior to Dr. Khan's last day. "I thank Dr. Page for his support and trust," Dr. Khan said. "It has been an honor and a privilege to have worked in public service with selflessly dedicated professionals who will continue their selfless commitment to the health and wellbeing of the residents of St. Louis County." Khan previously worked at DPH from 2010 to 2018, first as director of communicable disease control services and later as department director. Before his return to DPH in February 2021, he was CEO of the Samuel U. Rodgers Health Center in Kansas City. Over the next two months, Dr. Khan will make sure the leadership transition is a seamless one and that the Department of Public Health continues its important mission of serving our most vulnerable populations.
