Description

GILROY, CA — Gilroy's drinking water supply was determined to be safe last week after a routine test revealed nitrate levels that exceeded the maximum contaminant level (MCL). A test of the city's water well at Gilman Road and Camino Arroyo revealed nitrate levels at 12 milligrams per liter, exceeding the MCL of 10 milligrams per liter. Residents were notified last Thursday by City Administrator Jimmy Forbis and told to avoid giving water to infants under six months old and pregnant women. On Saturday, Gilroy Public Works Director Daryl Jordan provided an update that the State Division of Drinking Water had given the "all clear." Jordan said the city would continue to monitor levels to ensure the drinking water supply remains safe for consumption.
