May I use your kitchen? This is an art project which later will take form of a photo book. There is no fee involved in this collaboration. The kitchen is where I look after myself, and where we can take care of each others. I want to weave the experience of cooking and sharing into a sparse net of senses of home in New York City, in this turbulent time in my life. I will cook alone in your kitchen for approximately 2-3 hours. I will clean and put everything back to place when I am done. In return, you will get a free meal, photos, and observations, and a shared sense of being taken care of. The name "Conch Girl" is referencing a Chinese folktale "The Conch Girl." It is a story about a hard-working fisherman came home to a table of well cooked meal and a clean house everyday after he took home a conch. He later found out that the conch was a goddess who would turn into human figure, then cook and clean for him when he was out working. I want to reclaim the name of conch girl and create a modern version, which focuses more on the sense of taking care of one another by exchanging trust in the ocean of urban city.
