Description
June 25th from 9am until 3pm. This workshop will be outside (dress appropriately and bring water bottle, snacks if needed). For the forage workshop, we will walking through different pastures learning to identify the differences between good and poor forage, weeds and toxic plants. We will also tour the dairy, barn areas and pastures to show different ways to keep small ruminants from heat stress as well as age (stage of life) appropriate feeding tips for lambs, kids, milking and non- milking adults. We will have an opportunity for learning to milk experience for cows, sheep and goats and talk about milking machine basics as well as shearing basics. We will have milking machines, milking supplies and shearing equipment available for sale. We have a commercial dairy, cheese making facility, farm store and working farm. We raise Dairy sheep, Dairy goats, meat sheep, Jersey cows, Ducks, Livestock Guardian Dogs and Border collies. We will have pups for sale in the near future.
This class can prepare you for volunteering on our Whispering Pines Farm (in Seneca, SC) during the summer and fall seasons. The fee for this class is $125 per person. Children- $20- includes lunch. We have a discount for SC Sheep members. To sign up, the link on Eventbrite-
