How does a community reclaim its natural spaces? How can we repair more than a century of environmental harm and build a thriving ecosystem that benefits everyone? What does it mean to foster a sense of public responsibility for restoring and maintaining ecological integrity? In our upcoming Doug LaFollette Environmental Speakers Program, discover how community voices are shaping the rehabilitation of one of the most polluted sites in the Great Lakes region: the Milwaukee Estuary. Join us, Thursday, July 21st from 6-8pm at Centennial Hall in Downtown Milwaukee. From 6-7 pm there will be a cocktail hour featuring Octopi Beer and Seltzer! Speakers begin at 7pm so if you can't make it in person, tune in on Facebook Live at 7pm. Hear from Demetria Smith, Executive Director of the Kellogg PEAK Initiative and chair of the Community Action Coalition that’s working to ensure community voices play an active role in decisions around the massive, $400 million estuary cleanup effort.
