The Women's Equality Day Celebration Committee, in collaboration with Stepping Up and YWCA Evansville, invites you to join us for a special luncheon celebrating the 100th (plus 2 years) anniversary of women gaining the right to vote in the United States! Unfortunately, we were unable to gather in 2020 and in 2021 due to COVID-19, but we are back and ready to celebrate! This annual luncheon commemorates the passing of the 19th Amendment to the United States Constitution through inspirational speakers and uplifting messages. We are thrilled to welcome this year's keynote speaker, Dr. Mae Jemison, to our community. Dr. Jemison will share remarks on women's empowerment and engagement in STEM careers as well as personal insights from her incredible career as an astronaut, physician, and scientist. In addition to our distinguished speaker, two awards, named for legendary Evansville social reformer and founder of YWCA Evansville, Albion Fellows Bacon, will be presented to celebrate individuals who have shown exemplary service and motivational leadership. The Unsung Hero Award recognizes an individual for tireless service. The Inspirational Leadership Award recognizes an individual for being a change agent. **Doors open at 11:00 A.M. We have records for those tickets and there will be a seat for you. If you are a ticket holder from the canceled 2020 or 2021 events but are unable to attend this year's event, you may transfer your ticket to another attendee. Featured in a children’s book entitled Little Leaders: Bold Women in Black History and included in a groundbreaking Women of NASA Lego set, Jemison is a true icon, heralded for her passion and continued dedication to building a world of opportunity and equality.  Dr. Jemison is a highly sought after speaker on issues of health care, social responsibility, technology, education, STEM, and motivation.  About Women's Equality DayThe women’s suffrage movement was a decades-long fight to win the right to vote for women in the United States. It took activists and reformers nearly 100 years to win that right, and the campaign was not easy. On August 18, 1920, the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was finally ratified, enfranchising all American women and declaring for the first time that they, like men, deserve all the rights and responsibilities of citizenship. Women's Equality Day is celebrated each year in the United States on August 26th to commemorate the 1920 adoption of the 19th Amendment. Unfortunately, we were unable to gather in 2020 and 2021 to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of women getting the vote. We will honor the great centennial in 2022! Evansville's Women's Equality Day event began in 2004, and over the years has featured prominent speakers discussing the engagement of women in the political process, women in government, gender stereotypes, and more.  About the Albion Fellows Bacon AwardsTwo awards, named for Evansville social reformer and founder of YWCA Evansville, Albion Fellows Bacon, are presented each year to celebrate individuals who have shown exemplary service and motivational leadership. When does the program begin? The ballroom doors open at 11:00 A.M. The program will begin PROMPTLY at 11:30 A.M. Please plan your arrival accordingly so as to not disrupt the speakers. What are the COVID protocols? We are subject to the rules governing the City-County owned Old National Events Plaza. The COVID protocols are subject to change at any time leading up to the event. Seats will be assigned for ticket purchasers by the organizer. This means that you may be seated with people you do not know. Only multiple tickets purchased in the same transaction will be assigned to the same table. Event sponsors will have assigned seats together according to their allotted tickets.  Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event? No printed ticket is necessary.  We will have your name on our master list when you arrive.  Please visit the registration table upon arrival in order to receive your your assigned table number and other pertinent information.
