Description
Experience the world through the words of KB Ballentine, Christopher J Collier, and Kelly Hanwright - if you think you've been to a poetry reading before, it's nothing compared to this Poetry Jam! And thanks to a grant from the Nora Roberts Foundation, we've purchased copies of their books to give away as door prizes! This event is a part of our WILD Summer of Authors program, funded in part by a grant from Humanities Tennessee, an independent affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. You must be a current patron of the SDCL in good standing (no late fees or overdue books) to participate in this event. KB Ballentine resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee, and teaches creative writing, theatre arts, and literature to high school and college students. She has an M.A. in Writing and an M.F.A. in Creative Writing, Poetry. Her work has appeared in numerous journals and publications, including Atlanta Review, Linnet’s Wings, Crab Orchard Review, Alehouse, Tidal Basin Review, Haight–Ashbury Literary Journal, The Sigh Press, and MO: Writings from the River. http://www.kbballentine.com/ Christian J. Collier: Perhaps the best way to describe him is by what he doesn’t do. Christian is a modern renaissance man (poet, musician, educator, event host, etc.) who has been called a street beatnik, the spoken-word rockstar, and an artist to watch among other (mostly positive) things. Regardless of the medium though, Christian’s objective is the same: to genuinely impact and connect with each audience he’s in front of. It is this mission statement that has motivated him to keep pushing himself to delve deeper as an artist, performer, and person. http://www.christianjcollier.com/ Kelly Hanwright is a writer of poetry and fiction, although more successful in the former than the latter. She has been writing since age 8. as a child, she made up stories and sometimes illustrated them. Once she sent them to an aunt, who surprised her parents by responding with a $1,000 check to be put into a college fund! Raised by a parent with untreated mental illness, Kelly lives with anxiety and complex PTSD. she seeks to empower other women to give voice to their trauma through writing as part of the healing process, to erase stigma and open honest dialogue about mental health struggles. https://kellyhanwright.com/
