DANBURY, CT — Mayor Dean Esposito told his followers on Facebook that he tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday. Esposito said he had begun to "feel under the weather" and took an at-home COVID-19 test, which broke the bad news. "I tested positive, and will now quarantine at home for the next five days as recommended by the CDC," Esposito said. The mayor added that he is "fully vaccinated and boosted." COVID-19 infection rates in Connecticut have been trending downward over the past few weeks. The drop-off is in line with the trends seen during the past two years, as the virus somewhat recedes during summer months. Still, highly-contagious omicron subvariants are present in Connecticut and more than 100 towns are in the state's highest warning level for COVID-19 infections. From May 29 to June 11, Danbury recorded 136 total infections, a 10.1 percent positivity rate. Connecticut also hit a grim milestone of 11,000 COVID-19 deaths on Thursday. "I am confident I will make a full recovery and look forward to getting back to work for the people of Danbury," Esposito said.
