HARFORD COUNTY, MD — A boy faces arson charges after officials said he caused a fire Sunday that destroyed a barn in Harford County.
The fire in the 5300 block of Onion Road broke out before 12:30 p.m., according to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
Crews from the Norrisville Volunteer Fire Company and surrounding agencies battled the 50- by-100-foot barn fire, officials said. It was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived, according to the Bel Air Volunteer Fire Company.
As a result of the blaze, the barn was declared a total loss, with the damage to the building and its contents estimated to be more than $750,000.
Investigators said they determined the blaze was intentionally set and charged a 15-year- old boy with second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning and malicious destruction of property. He was released to the custody of his parents and referred to the Department of Juvenile Services, officials said.
