Press release from the Caddo Parish District Attorney's Office: Jun 16, 2022 A Shreveport man facing several drug charges in Caddo District Court pleaded guilty Thursday, June 16, 2022, three days into his trial and was sentenced to a decade in prison. District Judge Erin Leigh Waddell Garrett sentenced Charles Baylor, 26, to two 10-year terms, to be served concurrently, but consecutive to any other prison time Baylor, who has several violent crimes convictions on his record, may have remaining. The five-woman, seven-man jury was sworn in June 13 and heard opening statements and testimony the following day, and heard testimony June 15 and, following a recess, resumed its duties the morning of June 16, at which time Baylor pleaded guilty as charged on both counts. Baylor had been charged with possession with intent to distribute the schedule II controlled dangerous substance methamphetamine and possession with intent to distribute the schedule IV CDS alprazolam. He had been arrested June 19, 2020 after a chase by Shreveport police officers after an attempted traffic stop at Jewella Avenue and Fair Street. The chase, on a motor vehicle and then on foot, ended on Woodrow Avenue. Baylor's criminal convictions include home invasion, possession of Schedule II CDSs and domestic abuse battery. Baylor was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorneys Ross Owen and Erica Jefferson. He was represented by Evan McMichael, Katherine Evans Ferguson and Royal Alexander.
