Assist a small outfit in a wide range of seasonal hands-on work that focuses on native plants, grading, drainage, and the built environment, from residential landscaping to large-scale ecological restoration projects. We're a small team who spends most of our time doing hard manual labor in the field. It's an all hands on deck approach with minimal division of labor. We're looking for someone seasonal who wants to fit onto a team. The ideal candidate is comfortable working with others in a variety of outdoor conditions, communicates well, and has a strong sense of curiosity and willingness to learn. Workdays are typically Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.–4:30 p.m. To apply, please send cover letter and resume to the CL email on this post (preferred) or call. Responsibilities ● Assist in a wide variety of outdoor restoration and landscaping projects. Work efforts invariably change throughout the year, including controlled burns in the early spring, grading and drainage projects, rain garden installation, and invasive species removal in the summer and fall, snow clearing in the winter months, and more ● Operate a wide range of equipment, from hand and power tools to vehicles, to accomplish diverse land management objectives Minimum Qualifications ● Ability to lift heavy objects and work long hours outdoors in variable weather conditions ● Reliable transportation or valid driver’s license Desirable Qualifications ● Knowledge of local plants and ecosystems, and the desire to improve the connection between humans and nature ● Experience with ecological restoration or landscaping ● Possession of a valid State of Michigan Commercial Pesticide Applicator license ● Experience participating in controlled burns About Us Appel Environmental Design is a private LLC dedicated to the hands-on stewardship of southeastern Michigan. Our goal is to bridge the gap between people and the outdoor environment by constructing and managing landscapes in which our clients can cultivate their own personal connection to the outdoors. We work to restore a variety of local native ecosystems, from tallgrass prairies and oak savannahs to deciduous forests. We also perform these efforts on smaller scales, incorporating native plant communities into residential spaces.
