Description

This event will be held indoors* and outdoors (cutting and measuring stations will be on a covered patio). COVID vaccine mandatory, masking optional. Our learning objectives will include how to 1) take measurements and use a pattern, 2) learn to thread and use a sewing machine, 3) how to sew with knit fabric, and 4) learn different seam finishing techniques such as zigzag binding, pinking, etc. We will be using Simplicity US8212A (provided). Learners who quickly master the basics will move on to creating a functional handbag using the Stowe bag pattern from Grainline Studio (provided). Learners will also have the opportunity to peruse books detailing patchwork, embroidery, applique, and other forms of embellishment in order to enhance their bags. Needles and an ironing station for pressing will be provided. Sewing machines will be available on a turn basis (please bring your own if you have one!). Notions and fabric for embellishment will be provided, but please plan to bring at least 2 yards of knit fabric for your leggings on Monday, and at least 1 yard of your favorite woven fabric for your bag after you finish your leggings. And of course, students will be free to take a break and say hello to the chickens on our homestead. *Our home is overseen by a small but friendly management team of indoor cats. They may occasionally stop by to inspect your work, but in general they trust you to get the job done. :)
