Description

Please sign up here: https://www.meetup.com/sierra-club-northeast-florida-group/events/282196927/ We'll hike at a moderate pace for about four miles - two miles through beautiful coastal woodlands and about two miles along the beach. The Sierra Club and the YMCA of the USA have launched a national partnership focused on improving the health and wellbeing of former and current members of the military and their families through outdoor experiences. Studies prove the mental health benefits of participating in outdoor programs. Bring bug spray and water. No pets except service dogs. Children capable of four miles are welcome. You will be required to sign a YMCA registration/waiver. Our Sierra Club Northeast Florida is one of four pilot groups in the country to begin this partnership with the YMCA to provide outdoor activities for current and former military members and their families. The goal of Military Outdoors is to improve the lives of veterans and their families through connections with the outdoors and inspire members of the military and veteran community to become outspoken champions for environmental conservation and justice. If you are a Veteran group who would like to discuss a private hike for your group (Yep, that is free too!) or if you have any questions, please email Tammy at [email protected]. DIRECTIONS: The park’s address is 12157 Heckscher Drive, Jacksonville, Florida 32226. To get there from Jacksonville, take the FL-105/Heckscher Drive exit off 95 and follow it east and then north a total of 14 miles past the Mayport Ferry to Little Talbot Island State Park. Turn right into the park and drive a short way. We will meet in parking lot 1 on the left.
