Press release from the City of New Orleans:
June 16, 2022
NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today issued the following statement on state funding and supplemental pay for the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD):
"This ordinance is the result of the hard work of my administration along with the Orleans Delegation to the Louisiana Legislature, which secured a direct investment of $180,000 in state funding to support enhanced public safety equipment, in addition to $1,200 annually for our deserving officers," said Mayor Cantrell. "Public safety remains a priority for the City of New Orleans, and these funds will strengthen public safety services, directly improving responses to opioid overdoses, heart attacks and trauma through special services, as well as reduced risks associated with vehicle pursuits. We look forward to the work ahead to make this increase permanent, as well as extend supplemental pay to even more first responders."
