Here are the top three stories today in New Orleans: For the second summer in a row, the state police have joined the NOPD in an effort to help mitigate the historically high summer violent crimes rates seen across the city. This comes just after the increased police presence began for the next few months, with police officers now working 12-hour shifts that begun June 1. (WWLTV.com) The New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board has announced that it collected mosquitos on the East Bank that have tested positive for West Nile Virus. It has since treated the area but is warning citizens to beware of mosquito bites and common symptoms of the virus, which include joint pain, rash and diarrhea. (WDSU New Orleans) The New Orleans DA, Jason Williams, has threatened to sue Criminal Court judges over the closure of side entrance into the courthouse which is used to ensure privacy for witnesses, victims and prosecutors to protect their safety.
