Description
Just curious to know if there are any barn quilts displayed on any barns, sheds, or other type buildings in the tri county area.
If you are not familiar with what barn quilts are, but do like to quilt or like quilts, here is what I have discovered so far in my research.
People who are quilt lovers or know of friends or family who love quilting, display a large quilt square on their barns or sheds. These range in size from 2’ - 8’ square. The quilt design is normally painted on wood or metal and hung up on the wall of their building.
In my research, I learned that this has grown in popularity in the last 20 years.
There are now barn quilt trails in as many as 48 states and Canada. There are known to be 7 counties in South Carolina mostly upstate counties that have barn quilt trails.
I happen to stumble upon this a few days ago and became very interested. I love all types of crafts, mostly woodwork and painting so I have now begun to make our own barn quilt which should be finished and displayed by end of week.
This is a way to honor my mother who made many quilts in her life and my wife who currently makes quilts as well.
When it is finished I will post some pictures.
If you know of any that are already in the tri county area, I would love to know about them. Maybe this could be the start of a trail of barn quilts in our area.
