Groovy, Melodic bass for casual band

Description
Hi, I'm Ama. I wanted to get that “casual” thing out of the way first thing. I’m an employed parent, so I'm not really at the point in my life where I’m looking for world tours and 13 rehearsals a week. But music is and has been the center of my life for 30+ years, so I’m still making as much time as I can. Happy to do homework in order to maximize actual rehearsal time. Bass is my first instrument, and I’ve been playing since I was 16. But it’s been a while since I was the bassist in a band. I’ve been focused on my singer/songwriter stuff. I really miss being in a band and in the role of supporting someone else’s writing! Tone-wise, I’m very much into a big round warm sound. I tend toward melodic playing, rather than just keeping time. I can play a bunch of notes, and I can also be quite happy playing a few choice notes and enjoying the sustain. I’d love to have space to do a spectrum of complexities. I’ve done everything from subdued root note-playing to finger-picked chords in a duo that’s just bass and vocals. It’s all about the song. I’m really happy to work a piece of music facet by facet. I’m not at all happy improvising or jamming. I like to carefully craft. I'm self-taught, and I'm not fluent in music theory. But, like, if you're playing in A minor, I know which notes to play and which to avoid. I have also not spent much effort learning covers or emulating styles. I'm pretty darn good at playing like me, but not good at all at being told how or what to play. Hopefully we can find some common language and creative space. As for me personally, I believe I’m pretty easy going and patient. I’m in my late 40s, white/euro, agender, a snappy dresser. I’m more likely to want to share a pot of tea than a 6 pack. So that’s me (it really bugs me when people write these ads and say only what they want and nothing about what they bring!) What I want: Well, the people are pretty important. Can’t make beautiful music with people you can’t enjoy. I like many styles of music, so I might be interested in many things, as long as the people are the right fit! I have played a lot of acoustic "folk" music, and could easily roll with that (though because I write this kind of music myself, and have so much experience with it, I'm likely to be ridiculously picky about what projects I would be into.) I just watched Metal Lords on Netflix (twice), and my youthful metalhead of yore has resurfaced. I could get very excited about something loud and heavy, which also leaves space for some melody and groove. Probably not up for straight ahead riff-based, fast metal. I also enjoy music than nods toward jazz, soul, or R&B. I have never played anything like that, but I think I could. Maybe something new-wave / post punk? Something dream-poppy? Definitely not improvisational jazz, blues, bluegrass, country, reggae. Thanks for taking the time to read that novel. <3 Ama
