Description

Very good post. I was a third generation, solid, conservative Republican until the mid 1960's when they allowed the influx of disgruntled Dixiecrats who resented Johnson's stance on blacks. I watched in dismay as they then shifted to allowing the Anita Bryant "Save Our Children" wackos take over the party along with Pat Robertson's 700 club "Christians" who took the party from the ex-Klansmen. They of course morphed into the Tea Party, so hated, so reviled by the centrist, conservative Republicans left in the party that it created a schism so wide, Donald Trump marched right up the middle. Trump is only a symbol of what the party has been struggling over. The "Christians" are so fearful of homosexuality and abortion they still cling to the party and just hold their noses and vote for the lunacy we experienced. The moderate conservatives wring their hands and say: "nothing can be done." I wish I had your optimism. I honestly believe that once again, Trump will skate. It is what he has always done in life. I grieve over the party I loved as a youth. One sad, tired old man's opinion only.
