Description

Sagtikos Manor was built in 1697 and expanded in 1772 and 1902 to 42 rooms. Learn about the Thompson-Gardiner families, who continuously owned the estate over 200 years. The house is furnished with original family furniture, artwork, accessories with architectural styles from the 1600s to the middle 1900s. This estate once covering 1200 acres, now occupies 10 acres. On these grounds visit the 1900's walled garden, ice house, carriage house and the Thompson-Gardiner family cemetery. During the Revolutionary War, Sagtikos Manor served as temporary headquarters for the British Army. After that war, President George Washington spent the night during his 1790 tour of Long Island. Retrace his steps and visit the bedroom where he slept. In 1902 the Manor was expanded to forty two rooms by Frederick Diodoti Thompson. This shows the influence of the Gilded Age Period. Grounds may be explored at your leisure. Manor is not handicapped accessible.
